Clearing the cache in web browsers
Web browsers use caching of web pages to store frequently requested resources on the user's computer, preventing them from being constantly downloaded from the source server and reducing traffic.
Sometimes, problems with displaying a web page may occur in the browser because it is loaded from the previously cached version and has not been updated. In this case, it is recommended to clear the cache in the web browser.
It is also recommended to clear the cache after updating the router's OS or if you encounter problems displaying the device's web configurator.
As a general rule, refreshing the page in the web browser is sufficient to bypass the cache. This can be done using certain key combinations (usually Ctrl + F5 or Ctrl + R):
Web browser | Windows | macOS |
|---|---|---|
Chrome | Ctrl + F5 or Shift + F5 | Cmd + R |
Safari | Ctrl + R | Cmd + Alt + E or Cmd + R |
Edge | Ctrl + F5 | Cmd + R |
Mozilla Firefox | Ctrl + F5 or Ctrl + Shift + R | Cmd + R |
Opera | Ctrl + R or F5 | Cmd + R |
You can clear your cache by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Del or directly from your web browser's settings.
Go to your browser settings/options. In the Windows version, this is typically done using the three dots icon, also known as the "hamburger" icon, or the gear icon. The process of clearing the cache depends on the browser. Below are instructions for some popular browsers (the cache clearing procedure may vary, so please check the Internet for the latest information):
Google Chrome: Menu' Privacy and security'> 'Delete browsing data'> check 'Cached Images and files'> click 'Delete data'.
Safari: In the browser menu, click on 'Safari'> 'Preferences'> 'Advanced' tab > 'Show Develop menu in menu bar' flag. Then, in the browser menu, go to the 'Develop' section that appears and click 'Empty Caches'.
Microsoft Edge: 'History' menu > 'Clear Browsing Data' icon > 'Cached images and files' flag > 'Clear Now' button.
Mozilla Firefox: 'Privacy & security > 'Clear Data...'> 'Cached Web Content' flag > 'Clear' button.
Opera: 'History' menu > 'Clear Browser Data'> 'Cached images and files' flag > 'Clear data' button.
Important
Web browsers allow you to choose which data to delete from the cache. Please note that after deleting cookies, you will need to log in to websites again.
When clearing your cache, not only may the cache be deleted, but also your website visit history, browser history, images, and other website data. Before deleting your cache, you should select only the categories of data that you really want to delete.
